Stenocereus gummosus, commonly known as the Pitaya Agria or Sour Pitaya, is a tall, columnar cactus species native to the deserts of Baja California and Sonora, Mexico. This branching cactus features thick, ribbed stems with clusters of sharp spines. When grown from seeds, Stenocereus gummosus takes time to develop into its full size, but eventually forms large, tree-like structures. It produces striking white, nocturnal flowers, followed by edible red fruit with a tangy, sour flavor. This hardy cactus is well-adapted to arid environments, thriving in hot, dry conditions.
