The Hoodia gordonii is a fleshy, spiny succulent renowned for its cactus-like appearance, though it belongs to the Apocynaceae family. Native to the deserts of southern Africa, this slow-growing plant features tall, upright stems that can reach up to 1 meter in height. The stems are covered in spines and emit a strong odor when its pale, star-shaped flowers bloom, attracting pollinators. Known for its traditional use as an appetite suppressant, the Hoodia gordonii thrives in dry, harsh climates, where its unique adaptation to store water makes it highly drought-resistant.
