Astrophytum asterias, commonly known as the sand dollar cactus or sea urchin cactus, is a small, globular cactus native to Texas and northeastern Mexico. It features a distinctive flattened, disk-like shape with 8-10 broad, low ribs. The green body is dotted with white, star-shaped areoles, giving it a speckled appearance. This cactus is spineless, but its areoles can produce woolly tufts. During the growing season, it blooms with large, bright yellow flowers with orange centers. The plant's unique shape and striking pattern make it a popular choice among cactus enthusiasts.
