Product Description

We offer Araucaria bidwillii seeds, also known as the Bunya Pine, is a prehistoric coniferous marvel native to Queensland, Australia. Towering up to 45 meters (148 feet) in height, this ancient evergreen species is instantly recognizable for its symmetrical, dome-shaped crown, massively thick trunk, and spirally arranged, glossy dark green leaves. The foliage consists of rigid, sharply pointed triangular leaves that densely overlap, giving the branches a sculptural, armored appearance. What sets Araucaria bidwillii apart from all other trees is its extraordinary seed cones, which can weigh over 10 kilograms (22 pounds) and contain large, edible seeds revered by Indigenous Australians for centuries. A living fossil from the Jurassic period, the Bunya Pine brings an aura of deep-time wilderness to any landscape. It grows with stately grandeur and is revered for its slow, majestic growth, massive architectural form, and rare botanical lineage that links it to the age of dinosaurs.

Cultivation

Soil type: Prefers deep, well-draining loamy soils, slightly acidic to neutral pH.

Watering frequency: Moderate; water young trees regularly, but mature trees are drought-tolerant.

Light exposure: Full sun is essential for optimal growth and crown formation.

Temperature requirements: Thrives between 10°C and 30°C (50°F to 86°F); can tolerate brief frosts but dislikes prolonged freezing.

Fertilization: Annual application of slow-release, balanced fertilizer in spring enhances growth.

Pruning: Rarely needed; remove dead lower branches for structure if desired.

Common pests: Relatively pest-free; occasional scale insects or aphids may appear on young plants.

Other care practices: Provide space for its enormous size; avoid planting near footpaths or structures due to falling cones in maturity.
