Product Description

The Agave victoriae-reginae 'Mediopicta Alba', also known as the white variegated Queen Victoria agave, is an extraordinary architectural succulent revered for its intricate leaf patterning and compact geometry. This rare cultivar is a variegated form of the already iconic Agave victoriae-reginae, distinguished by its central white stripe—the mediopicta pattern—that runs cleanly down the middle of each deep green leaf. The dramatic contrast between the milky-white variegation and dark foliage enhances its sculptural appeal, while thin, white leaf margins and precise geometric symmetry add to its refined presence. Typically forming a tight rosette that rarely exceeds 30 cm in height and width, this plant is a showstopper for rock gardens, containers, or xeriscaped collections. Its slow-growing, solitary nature and chalky-white leaf markings make it a prize among collectors, particularly due to its rarity and the subtle variability in variegation from plant to plant. Agave victoriae-reginae 'Mediopicta Alba' is a living sculpture—elegant, disciplined, and captivating.

Cultivation

Soil type: Requires extremely well-drained, gritty, or sandy soil—ideally cactus mix or rocky loam.

Watering frequency: Water sparingly; allow soil to fully dry between waterings. Water once every 2–3 weeks during growing season; reduce to monthly or less in winter.

Light exposure: Full sun to partial shade. Best coloration and compact form are achieved in bright, direct light.

Temperature requirements: Thrives in warm conditions; ideal range is 18–30°C (64–86°F). Tolerates down to -3°C (26.5°F) if kept dry, but frost protection is recommended.

Fertilization: Apply a diluted cactus fertilizer once per month during spring and summer. Do not fertilize in winter.

Pruning: None required; remove dead leaves only if necessary.

Common pests: Watch for mealybugs and scale; root rot may occur if overwatered.

Any other relevant care practices: Prefers to be slightly root-bound in pots. Ensure containers have excellent drainage. Avoid overhead watering to prevent leaf rot.
