Plant Description

The western hemlock or Tsuga heterophylla is a tall, graceful evergreen conifer native to the coastal and mountainous forests of western North America. It features soft, flat needles with a glossy dark-green upper surface and a paler underside marked by two white stomatal bands. The tree’s slender, drooping leader and layered branches create a sweeping, elegant appearance. Growing to heights of 30–70 meters (100–230 feet), it produces small, oval cones that mature from green to brown. Known for its adaptability and beauty, it thrives in moist, temperate forests.
