Taxodium distichum
Taxodium distichum
Plant Description
The Taxodium distichum, commonly known as the Bald Cypress, is a majestic deciduous conifer native to the wetlands of the southeastern United States. It is distinguished by its feathery, light green needles that turn a striking coppery-red in autumn before falling. Known for its ability to grow in waterlogged soils, the Bald Cypress often develops distinctive knobby root projections, called “knees,” which protrude above the water surface. With its straight trunk and conical shape, this tree is highly ornamental and well-suited to both wet and dry landscapes.
