Plant Description

Styrax japonicus, commonly known as the Japanese Snowbell or 野茉莉 (Ye Mo Li) in Chinese, is a small deciduous tree or large shrub native to East Asia, prized for its elegant, pendulous white bell-shaped flowers. At the 10-25 cm size, this young plant is just beginning to develop its characteristic oval, dark green leaves, which provide a lush backdrop to the delicate blooms. In late spring to early summer, Styrax japonicus produces clusters of fragrant white flowers that dangle from the branches, creating a graceful, cascading effect. The flowers are followed by small, greenish-brown drupes. This tree is highly valued for its ornamental appeal, making it a beautiful addition to gardens, particularly in shaded or woodland settings.
