Plant Description
Sequoiadendron sempervirens, commonly known as the coast redwood, is a majestic evergreen conifer renowned for its towering height and longevity. Native to the foggy coastal regions of California and Oregon, this species belongs to the cypress family (Cupressaceae). Coast redwoods are distinguished by their reddish-brown bark, which can grow to impressive thicknesses, providing insulation from fire. Their needle-like leaves are flat and arranged spirally on the shoots. These ancient giants can live for centuries, reaching heights of over 300 feet, making them some of the tallest trees on Earth.
