Plant Description
Saxegothaea conspicua, commonly known as the Prince Albert's yew or Patagonian yew, is a unique coniferous tree native to the temperate rainforests of Chile and Argentina. This evergreen species is the sole member of the genus Saxegothaea, making it a botanical curiosity. Unlike true yews (Taxus), it bears its seeds in fleshy, cone-like structures rather than in individual arils. The bark of mature trees is distinctive, exfoliating in irregular plates to reveal an attractive reddish-brown coloration.
