Plant Description
The Ravenala madagascariensis, also known as the Traveler’s Tree, is an iconic plant from Madagascar. With broad, paddle-like leaves that fan out symmetrically from a central stem, it resembles a palm but is closer in structure to the banana family. Mature plants develop an upright, trunk-like stem, while the leaves align in a striking fan pattern, often creating a sense of symmetry. The leaves are leathery, with an impressive length, gathering and holding rainwater in their leaf bases, which gave rise to its common name, as travelers could use this water source.
