Plant Description

Quercus rubra, commonly known as the Northern Red Oak, is a striking deciduous tree admired for its fast growth, distinctive foliage, and stunning fall color. It has large, lobed leaves that are bright green in spring, turn dark green in summer, and transform to vibrant red in autumn. Reaching heights of 20-30 meters (65-100 feet), the Northern Red Oak has a wide, rounded crown and a straight trunk with smooth, gray-brown bark that becomes ridged and furrowed with age. In spring, it produces small, slender catkins followed by acorns that mature in two years, providing food for local wildlife.
