Plant Description
The Quercus pubescens, known as Downy Oak, is a deciduous tree with a broad, irregular crown and twisted branches. Its lobed, dark green leaves have a soft, downy underside, giving the species its name. The bark is thick and deeply fissured, aging into a rugged, grayish-brown texture. In spring, it produces yellow-green catkins, followed by small, oval acorns that mature in autumn. This slow-growing, drought-resistant oak thrives in rocky and calcareous soils, making it a vital component of Mediterranean woodlands and dry forests.
