Plant Description
Podocarpus salignus, commonly known as the willow leaf podocarp, is a coniferous evergreen tree native to Chile. This graceful tree features drooping branches adorned with narrow, willow-like leaves, hence its common name. Unlike typical conifers with cones, Podocarpus salignus produces small, fleshy fruits that resemble berries. These fruits are an important food source for various bird species. This species is dioecious, meaning individual trees produce either male or female cones.
