Platanus orientalis
Platanus orientalis
Plant Description
Platanus orientalis, commonly known as the Oriental Plane, is a majestic deciduous tree known for its impressive height and broad canopy. Reaching heights of 20-30 meters, this tree features a massive, straight trunk with exfoliating bark that peels away in patches, revealing a mosaic of creamy white, green, and gray underneath. Its large, lobed leaves, reminiscent of a maple’s, turn a rich, golden yellow in autumn. The Oriental Plane produces spherical clusters of small, greenish flowers in spring, which develop into spiky, ball-like seed heads. Renowned for its shade and ornamental value, it’s often found in parks and urban landscapes.
