Plant Description

The Austrian pine, or Pinus nigra, is a robust evergreen conifer with a tall, straight trunk and a dense, conical to spreading crown. Its bark develops thick, grayish to dark brown plates with age, while the long, stiff needles are dark green and arranged in pairs. Growing up to 40 meters, this pine produces ovoid cones that mature to a glossy brown. Native to Europe and Asia Minor, the Austrian pine is prized for its hardiness, adaptability, and role in windbreaks, reforestation, and ornamental landscapes.
