Il Pinus banksiana, noto come pino di Banks, è una robusta conifera sempreverde di medie dimensioni, originaria del Nord America. Celebre per la sua adattabilità, questo pino presenta aghi contorti di colore verde-giallastro, raggruppati a coppie, e rami irregolari che formano una chioma espansa o a volte contorta. Gli alberi maturi raggiungono un’altezza di 9–22 metri. Le sue pigne piccole e asimmetriche possono rimanere chiuse per anni, aprendosi solo dopo esposizione a calore intenso, come durante incendi. Questo resistente pino prospera in suoli poveri e sabbiosi, adattandosi a climi difficili come specie pioniera.
