Plant Description

Pinus attenuata, commonly known as the Knobcone Pine, is a unique conifer native to Baja California, Mexico, and the western United States. At the 10-20 cm size, this young tree is just beginning to develop its characteristic slender, pointed needles and small cones that often remain attached to the branches for years. The knob-like cones are a distinctive feature, tightly clustered along the branches and trunk. Pinus attenuata is well-adapted to fire-prone environments, with its cones requiring heat to open and release seeds. This pine is valued for its rugged beauty and resilience in challenging landscapes.
