Phoenix reclinata
Phoenix reclinata
Plant Description
The Phoenix reclinata, also known as the Senegal date palm, is a visually striking palm species known for its multiple, gracefully arching stems. Unlike the solitary trunk of its relative, the date palm (Phoenix dactylifera), the Phoenix reclinata exhibits a clumping habit, with new stems emerging from the base. Its pinnate leaves, reaching up to 3 meters long, create a lush, tropical effect. Each leaf is composed of numerous, sharply pointed leaflets, adding to the plant's distinctive appearance. The Phoenix reclinata produces edible, although not commercially significant, dates.
