Plant Description

Parkinsonia aculeata, commonly known as the Jerusalem thorn or Mexican palo verde, is a small to medium-sized deciduous tree native to the southwestern United States, Mexico, and Central America. It typically grows 5-8 meters tall with an open, airy canopy. The tree has long, drooping branches with tiny, bipinnate leaves and sharp spines along the branches. The bark is green and photosynthetic, which helps the tree thrive in arid conditions. In spring and summer, it produces bright yellow flowers in loose clusters, followed by long, slender seed pods. The tree is drought-tolerant and often used in xeriscaping.
