Plant Description

Myrciaria cauliflora, commonly known as jaboticaba, is a fascinating tropical tree distinguished by its unique cauliflorous fruiting—its thick-skinned, grape-like purple-black berries grow directly from the trunk and branches. This small, slow-growing evergreen tree has smooth, peeling bark, small glossy leaves, and profuse white flowers that emerge in flushes several times a year. The sweet, gelatinous pulp of the fruit surrounds one to four seeds and is prized for fresh eating and artisanal jams, wines, and liqueurs.
