Native to central Mexico, especially rocky volcanic soils, it blooms with elegant pale pink to rose-colored flowers at the crown during the warmer months. Its name, meaning "thick" or "stout," refers to its sturdy, fleshy stem, making it a durable and attractive choice for arid gardens and collectors.
