Plant Description

The Liquidambar styraciflua, commonly known as the Sweetgum Tree, is a tall, deciduous tree admired for its spectacular autumn foliage. Its star-shaped, deeply lobed leaves transition through brilliant shades of red, orange, yellow, and purple in the fall. The tree produces distinctive, spiky seed balls that persist into winter, adding ornamental interest. With its straight trunk, pyramidal form, and ridged, corky bark, the Sweetgum Tree is both stately and versatile. Native to eastern North America, it thrives in a variety of soils and makes an excellent shade or street tree.
