Glyptostrobus pensilis
Glyptostrobus pensilis
Plant Description
The Chinese swamp cypress or Glyptostrobus pensilis is a rare and elegant deciduous conifer, native to wetlands and riverbanks of Southeast Asia. It features slender, upright growth, reaching heights of 20–30 meters (65–100 feet). Its feathery, bright-green needles turn a rich golden-brown in autumn before shedding. The tree is known for its distinctive buttressed trunk and often forms pneumatophores (aerial roots) in waterlogged soils. Its small, woody cones are oval-shaped and provide ornamental interest. With its graceful silhouette and resilience, this species is a true wetland gem.
