Fitzroya cupressoides
Plant Description
The Fitzroya cupressoides, commonly known as Alerce, is a magnificent conifer native to the temperate rainforests of southern Chile and Argentina. This evergreen tree can live for thousands of years and boasts an imposing presence with its tall, straight trunk and reddish-brown, fibrous bark. Its scale-like leaves are arranged in whorls, giving it a dense, feathery appearance. In its natural habitat, it can reach towering heights, but at 40-50 cm, the young trees exhibit their signature delicate foliage and elegant form, perfect for long-term growth in gardens.
