Ferocactus stainesii var. pilosus, often referred to as the Mexican Fire Barrel, is an imposing, columnar cactus with bright red spines that glow vividly against its blue-green, ribbed body. This variety is especially noted for its hair-like bristles near the apex, giving it a slightly "shaggy" crown. It can grow over 2 meters tall, forming dramatic vertical accents in arid landscapes. In summer, it produces yellow to orange flowers, often clustered tightly near the top. Its brilliant spination and stature make it a collector's highlight.
