Plant Description
Diospyros virginiana, commonly known as the American persimmon, is a deciduous tree native to eastern North America. This species, belonging to the Ebenaceae family, is known for its hard, dark wood and edible fruit. The tree produces small, greenish-yellow flowers, followed by orange-brown berries that ripen in late fall. The fruit is astringent when unripe due to high tannin content, but becomes sweet and palatable after frost or when fully mature.
