Product Description

The Dioon purpusii is a majestic and slow-growing cycad native to the subtropical regions of Mexico. Its elegant, upright trunk is crowned by a spectacular rosette of stiff, pinnate leaves that are silvery-green to bluish-gray, creating a striking appearance. Each leaf is composed of slender, rigid leaflets with a slightly serrated edge, giving it a unique texture. This prehistoric plant exudes an ancient beauty, often forming multiple trunks over time. It thrives in rocky terrains and is renowned for its drought resistance and ability to lend a bold, sculptural presence to gardens.

Cultivation

Soil type: Prefers well-draining, sandy, or rocky soils; tolerates poor, nutrient-deficient conditions.

Watering frequency: Water moderately during the growing season; allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Minimal watering in winter.

Light exposure: Thrives in full sun to partial shade; bright light enhances its silvery leaf coloration.

Temperature requirements: Performs well in temperatures ranging from 20°C–35°C (68°F–95°F); sensitive to frost.

Fertilization: Use a balanced fertilizer during the active growth phase; avoid over-fertilizing.

Pruning: Remove dead or damaged leaves to maintain the plant's shape and health.

Common pests: Occasionally affected by scale insects and mealybugs; inspect regularly and treat if necessary.

Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot and provide ample space for its expansive growth habit.
