Product Description

Copiapoa oliviana is a striking cactus native to the coastal deserts of northern Chile. This plant forms dense clusters of globular to slightly cylindrical stems, each up to 15 cm in height and 8 cm in diameter. The stems are a unique olive-green color with a powdery coating, giving them a frosted appearance. Prominent ribs run vertically along the stems, adorned with clusters of short, stout, black spines. In summer, Copiapoa oliviana produces small, funnel-shaped yellow flowers at the apex of each stem, adding a splash of color to its rugged form. This cactus is highly valued for its unusual appearance and resilience.

Cultivation

Soil Type: Use a gritty, well-draining cactus mix with added sand or pumice.

Watering: Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.

Temperature: Thrives in warm climates; protect from frost and freezing temperatures.

Fertilization: Apply a balanced, low-nitrogen cactus fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer).

Pruning: Generally not needed; remove any dead or damaged stems.

Pests: Be vigilant for pests such as mealybugs and spider mites; treat promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
