Product Description

Copiapoa armata is a striking cactus species native to the coastal deserts of northern Chile. This plant forms dense clusters of globular to short cylindrical stems, each reaching up to 20 cm in height and 10 cm in diameter. The stems exhibit a unique blue-grey hue with a fine white powdery coating that adds a frosted appearance. Prominent ribs are adorned with clusters of long, black spines that provide a dramatic contrast to the smooth skin. During the summer, Copiapoa armata produces small, funnel-shaped yellow flowers at the apex of the stems, adding a touch of vibrant color to its rugged appearance.

Cultivation

Soil Type: Use a gritty, well-draining cactus mix with added sand or pumice.

Temperature: Thrives in warm climates; protect from frost and freezing temperatures.

Fertilization: Apply a balanced, low-nitrogen cactus fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer).

Pruning: Generally not needed; remove any dead or damaged stems.

Pests: Be vigilant for pests such as mealybugs and spider mites; treat promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
