Agave stricta var. rubra, commonly known as the Red Hedgehog Agave, is a striking, compact succulent native to Mexico. Growing to a height of 6-8 cm, this variety is distinguished by its narrow, rigid leaves that turn a vivid red or reddish-purple under full sun or stress conditions. The leaves form a dense, symmetrical rosette with sharp terminal spines, giving it a hedgehog-like appearance. This miniature agave rarely flowers, but when it does, it produces a tall spike with small, greenish-yellow flowers. Agave stricta var. rubra is highly valued for its vibrant color and unique form, making it an excellent choice for rock gardens, containers, and xeriscaping.
