Aesculus pavia
Aesculus pavia
Plant Description
The Aesculus pavia, commonly known as the Red Buckeye, is a small deciduous tree or large shrub admired for its stunning display of red tubular flowers in spring. Growing up to 6 meters (20 feet) tall, it features smooth gray bark and palmately compound leaves with 5 to 7 leaflets, each with serrated edges. The vivid, nectar-rich blooms attract hummingbirds and pollinators, while its glossy, round fruits contain seeds that are toxic if ingested. This Aesculus species is a standout for woodland gardens and naturalized landscapes, adding color and texture with its bold foliage and striking flowers.
