Acer pseudoplatanus
Acer pseudoplatanus
Plant Description
The Acer pseudoplatanus, or Sycamore Maple, is a large, broad-leaved deciduous tree known for its lobed, dark green leaves with a paler underside. The leaves, with five distinct lobes, resemble those of a maple and have serrated edges, giving them a sculpted appearance. In spring, the tree produces small greenish-yellow flowers that hang in clusters, later forming winged seeds called samaras. Its bark starts smooth and grey, but with age, it develops a distinctive flaky texture that reveals patches of orange and pinkish hues, adding visual interest through the seasons.
