Plant Description

The subalpine fir or Abies lasiocarpa is a graceful conifer native to high-elevation forests. It features slender, spire-like growth with a narrow, pyramidal crown. The needles are soft, bluish-green, and arranged spirally on the branches, creating a dense appearance. Its smooth gray bark transitions to a furrowed texture as it matures. This tree can reach heights of 15–25 meters (50–80 feet) and is well-suited to cold climates. The upright, cylindrical cones mature from purple to brown, contributing to the tree’s alpine charm.
