Plant Description
Abies balsamea, commonly known as balsam fir, is a coniferous evergreen tree native to North America. This aromatic fir species is characterized by its narrow, spire-like crown and flat, fragrant needles. The needles are dark green on the upper surface with two silvery-white bands on the underside. Abies balsamea is known for its resinous, cone-shaped buds, which are a source of Canada balsam, a substance used in optical products and as a mounting medium for microscope slides.
