Plant Description

The Vanilla planifolia, commonly known as the Vanilla Orchid, is a climbing orchid species prized for producing the vanilla bean. This unique orchid features long, green, fleshy stems that can grow up to several meters in length, but at 5-20 cm, it is still in its early stages of development. Its thick, oblong leaves are leathery and bright green, arranged alternately along the vine. Once mature, it produces fragrant yellow-green flowers, which, when pollinated, give rise to the coveted vanilla pods. Native to tropical forests, this orchid is both ornamental and commercially valuable.
