Plant Description

Taxus baccata, commonly known as the English Yew, is a slow-growing evergreen tree or large shrub. It typically reaches heights of 10-20 meters with a spread of 4-6 meters. The bark is reddish-brown and peels with age, while the dense foliage consists of dark green, needle-like leaves arranged spirally on the stem. These leaves are linear, flat, and around 1-4 cm long. Female plants produce bright red, berry-like arils that encase a single seed. This species is highly tolerant of pruning and is often used for hedging and topiary. It is long-lived, with some specimens living for several centuries.
