Salix alba subsp. vitellina
Salix alba subsp. vitellina
Plant Description
Salix alba subsp. vitellina, also known as golden willow, is a deciduous tree celebrated for its striking, golden-yellow branches that brighten landscapes, especially in winter. This subspecies of white willow grows rapidly, with long, lance-shaped green leaves that have a silvery underside, creating a shimmering effect in the breeze. In spring, small, inconspicuous catkins appear, attracting early pollinators. Reaching up to 15–20 meters, golden willow is commonly found along riversides and ponds, where its brilliant color adds visual interest year-round and provides essential erosion control.
