Plant Description

Sabal minor, known as the dwarf palmetto, is a compact, hardy palm admired for its fan-shaped blue-green leaves that emerge directly from an underground stem, giving it a unique, low-growing structure. These broad leaves, with prominent, split segments, can reach over a meter wide, creating a lush, tropical feel in the garden. In late spring, slender flower stalks rise above the foliage, bearing small, creamy white flowers that later produce dark black berries. Native to the southeastern United States, Sabal minor is exceptionally cold-tolerant for a palm and thrives in a variety of landscapes, including woodlands and water gardens.
