Plant Description
The Puya raimondii, also known as Queen of the Andes, is a remarkable species of bromeliad. Native to the high Andes of Bolivia and Peru, it holds the record for the largest inflorescence in the plant kingdom, reaching up to 30 feet tall. This monocarpic species takes decades, sometimes a century, to flower. Its inflorescence, resembling a giant asparagus stalk, produces thousands of flowers and can attract up to 100 species of birds.
