The Balfour’s spruce or Picea likiangensis var. balfouriana is a stately, evergreen conifer native to the mountainous regions of China. This spruce features a tall, pyramidal form with dense branches covered in sharp, dark-green needles. The cones are cylindrical, maturing from purplish-green to brown as they ripen. Reaching heights of 20–40 meters (65–130 feet), this tree is valued for its adaptability to high altitudes and harsh climates. Its symmetrical shape and vibrant foliage make it a stunning addition to large landscapes or reforestation projects.
