Product Description

Maihueniopsis glomeratus, formerly known as Tephrocactus glomeratus, is a unique cactus species native to Argentina and Chile. This small, globular cactus is known for its peculiar growth habit, forming clusters or mounds of spherical to oval-shaped segments. Each segment can grow up to 5 cm in diameter, and these segments readily detach and root to form new plants, contributing to the cactus's clumping, glomerate appearance.

The surface of Maihueniopsis glomeratus is characterized by a green to blue-green color with a somewhat rough texture. The cactus is covered with areoles that produce small, yellowish or brown spines. These spines are short but sharp, providing a contrast to the otherwise smooth segments.

One of the striking features of this cactus is its flowering habit. Maihueniopsis glomeratus produces beautiful, yellow flowers that bloom from the tops of the segments. These flowers are relatively large compared to the size of the plant and add a vibrant touch to the cactus when in bloom.

Maihueniopsis glomeratus is a hardy and low-maintenance plant, making it a popular choice for cactus enthusiasts and collectors. It thrives in well-draining soil and requires minimal water, making it well-suited to dry, arid environments. Due to its compact size and interesting morphology, this cactus is often used in rock gardens, container gardens, and as a part of drought-tolerant landscaping. Its ability to easily propagate from detached segments also makes it a fascinating plant to observe and cultivate.
