Fraxinus ornus
Fraxinus ornus
Plant Description
Fraxinus ornus, commonly known as the Manna Ash or Flowering Ash, is a medium-sized deciduous tree native to southern Europe and western Asia. It typically grows to a height of 10-15 meters, with a rounded crown and smooth, gray bark that becomes slightly fissured with age. The pinnate leaves are composed of 5-9 leaflets, providing a lush, green appearance throughout the growing season. In late spring, the tree produces abundant clusters of fragrant, creamy-white flowers that are visually striking and attract pollinators. The flowers give way to winged seeds known as samaras. This tree is valued for its ornamental beauty and the manna it produces, a sweet substance used traditionally as a mild laxative.
