Product Description

Cycas revoluta

Cycas revoluta, commonly known as the Sago Palm (though not a true palm), is a plant species belonging to the cycad genus, which is ancient, slow-growing, and native to southern Japan including the Ryukyu Islands. It is one of the most widely cultivated cycads, admired for its striking appearance and resilience.

The plant features a thick, shaggy trunk that can grow up to 10 meters (about 33 feet) in height in the wild, but is usually much smaller in cultivation. Atop this trunk sits a crown of stiff, feathery leaves that are glossy green and can reach up to 1-2 meters (3-6 feet) in length. These leaves are pinnate, meaning they are composed of a central stem with numerous leaflets arranged on either side, resembling the feathers of a bird.

Cycas revoluta is dioecious, meaning individual plants are either male or female. Male plants produce cone-like structures that release pollen, while female plants produce megasporophylls, which carry the seeds. The seeds are large, reddish, and have a fleshy coating.
