Product Description

Copiapoa tenuissima is a small, globular cactus species native to the arid regions of northern Chile. This species typically forms dense clusters of individual stems, each reaching up to 5 cm in height and 3 cm in diameter. The skin is dark green, often covered with a fine layer of white wool that helps protect it from the intense desert sun. The spines are thin, delicate, and vary from white to yellowish-brown, densely covering the plant. During the summer, Copiapoa tenuissima blooms with small, bright yellow flowers that emerge from the top of the stems, creating a striking contrast with its dark, woolly body.

Cultivation

  • Soil: Use a well-draining cactus mix; a combination of sandy and gritty soil is ideal.
  • Watering: Water sparingly; allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.
  • Light: Prefers full sun to partial shade; protect from intense midday sun.
  • Temperature: Thrives in warm temperatures (20-30°C); can tolerate mild frost but should be protected from prolonged cold.
  • Fertilization: Apply a balanced, diluted cactus fertilizer during the growing season.
  • Pruning: Not necessary; remove spent flowers to maintain appearance.
  • Pests: Watch for mealybugs and spider mites; use insecticidal soap if needed.
