Product Description

Aloe peglerae is a species of aloe native to South Africa.

Description:

  1. Leaves: Aloe peglerae has rosettes of thick, triangular leaves with distinctive toothed margins. The leaves are typically pale green to bluish-green in color and can develop a reddish tint under stress or in bright sunlight.

  2. Inflorescence: Mature plants produce tall, branched inflorescences bearing tubular orange-red flowers. Flowering usually occurs in late winter to spring.

  3. Size: This aloe species tends to be compact, with rosettes reaching about 30-60 cm in diameter and 30-45 cm in height.

  4. Habitat: Aloe peglerae is native to rocky slopes and cliffs in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, where it grows in well-draining, rocky soils.

Cultivation from Seeds:

  1. Seed Collection: Collect seeds from mature Aloe peglerae plants after the flowers have dried and formed seed pods. Allow the pods to fully ripen and turn brown before harvesting the seeds.

  2. Seed Preparation: Clean the seeds by removing any remaining fruit pulp and allow them to air dry for a few days. Store the seeds in a cool, dry place until you are ready to plant them.

  3. Sowing: Plant the seeds in a well-draining potting mix designed for cacti and succulents. Press the seeds lightly into the soil surface and cover them with a thin layer of fine sand or perlite.

  4. Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged until the seeds germinate. After germination, reduce watering frequency to mimic the plant's natural habitat, allowing the soil to dry out partially between waterings.

  5. Light: Provide bright, indirect sunlight or partial shade for young seedlings. As they grow, gradually acclimate them to more direct sunlight to prevent sunburn.

  6. Temperature: Aloe peglerae prefers warm temperatures and can tolerate mild frost but should be protected from freezing temperatures.

  7. Transplanting: Once the seedlings have developed several true leaves, they can be transplanted into individual pots filled with well-draining succulent soil mix.

  8. Maintenance: Aloe peglerae is relatively low-maintenance and does not require frequent fertilization. However, you can feed established plants with a diluted, balanced fertilizer during the growing season.
