Plant Description

The Akebia quinata, commonly known as the Five-Leaf Akebia or Chocolate Vine, is a vigorous climbing vine known for its ornamental foliage and fragrant flowers. At 50-110 cm, this young vine is starting to develop its woody stems and distinctive five-lobed leaves, which are dark green and palmate. In spring, it produces small, purple-brown flowers with a delicate chocolate scent, adding an element of charm. The vine can also produce edible, purple fruits that appear in late summer. Fast-growing and cold-hardy, this vine thrives in various garden settings and can be trained on trellises or pergolas.
