Product Description

Quercus canariensis, commonly known as the Algerian oak, is a species of oak native to the western Mediterranean region. It is found in southern Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. This species is known for its large, attractive leaves and its ability to thrive in a variety of soil types, though it prefers moist, well-drained soils.

The Algerian oak is a deciduous tree, growing up to 20–25 meters tall. Its leaves are distinctive, being large (10–15 cm long and 6–8 cm broad), glossy dark green, and with a paler underside. The edges of the leaves are slightly serrated. The acorns of Quercus canariensis are also notable, being large and borne on a long peduncle.

This tree is valued for its hard, durable wood as well as its ornamental qualities. It is often planted in parks and large gardens for its shade and aesthetic appeal. The Algerian oak is also an important species for wildlife, providing habitat and food for various birds and mammals.

In terms of care, the Algerian oak is relatively low-maintenance once established. It can tolerate drought conditions but grows best with regular watering during dry periods. This species is also relatively resistant to pests and diseases, making it a robust choice for landscaping in suitable climates.
