Product Description

Acanthocalycium ferrari is a globular cactus native to Argentina. It is characterized by its spherical or slightly elongated body, with areoles from which spines emerge. During the flowering season, it can produce colorful flowers, often in shades of yellow or red, which add further decorative interest to the plant.

Cultivation from Seeds:

  1. Seed Preparation: The seeds of Acanthocalycium ferrarii do not require special preparations, but it is advisable to sow them fresh to optimize germination.

  2. Sowing: Plant the seeds in a well-draining cactus mix. Place the seeds on the surface and lightly press them into the soil without covering them, as they need light to germinate.

  3. Germination Environment: Provide a warm environment (about 20-25°C or 68-77°F) and maintain consistent moisture by covering the pot with clear plastic wrap to create a mini greenhouse effect.

  4. Watering: Use a spray bottle to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, avoiding water stagnation which can cause seed rot.

  5. Germination Time: Seeds can take anywhere from a few weeks to a couple of months to germinate, so patience is necessary.

  6. Seedling Care: Once the seedlings appear, gradually expose them to more light and air by removing the plastic wrap for increasing intervals.

  7. Transplanting: When the seedlings are large enough to handle, usually after they have developed a few true spines, transplant them into individual pots.

  8. Ongoing Care: Provide bright indirect light, water when the soil is completely dry, and fertilize with a cactus-specific fertilizer during the growing season.

Cultivating Acanthocalycium ferrarii from seeds is a rewarding experience, as it allows you to witness the formation of this cactus's interesting structure from the beginning.
