Product Description

Agave f3 HYBRID (ovatifolia x weberi x eborispina), a rare third-generation hybrid:

Description:

  • Appearance: This hybrid combines traits from its parent species, resulting in a unique appearance. It typically forms a rosette of succulent leaves with various colors and textures, depending on the specific characteristics inherited from each parent.

  • Size: The size of this hybrid can vary widely, influenced by the characteristics of its parent species. It may reach sizes similar to its parent plants, with mature rosettes ranging from small to large, depending on environmental conditions.

  • Flowering: Like many agave species, this hybrid is monocarpic, meaning it blooms only once in its lifetime before dying. The flowering stalk can rise several feet tall and produce clusters of yellow or greenish flowers, showcasing the genetic diversity inherited from its parent species.

Cultivation Tips:

  1. Light: Provide ample sunlight for this hybrid. Place it in a location with full to partial sun exposure throughout the day. Indoors, position it near a south-facing window where it can receive plenty of sunlight.

  2. Soil: Plant the hybrid in well-draining soil. A mixture of cactus potting mix or sandy soil with perlite or pumice works well. Ensure good drainage to prevent waterlogging and root rot.

  3. Watering: Allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Water the hybrid thoroughly but infrequently, especially during the winter months when its growth slows down. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.

  4. Temperature: This hybrid is typically hardy to USDA hardiness zones 9 and above. It prefers warm temperatures but can tolerate mild frost for short periods. Protect it from prolonged exposure to freezing temperatures.

  5. Container: If growing in a container, choose one with drainage holes to prevent water from accumulating at the bottom. Repot the hybrid into a slightly larger container as it grows, typically every 2-3 years.

  6. Fertilization: Feed the hybrid with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half-strength during the growing season (spring and summer). Fertilize sparingly, as agaves are not heavy feeders.

  7. Propagation: Propagate the hybrid through offsets (pups) that emerge around the base of the parent plant. Wait until the offsets are a few inches tall before carefully separating them and replanting them in their own containers or in the garden.

By following these cultivation tips, you can grow and appreciate the unique beauty of this rare third-generation hybrid, Agave f3 (ovatifolia x weberi x eborispina).
